PETER Sculthorpe is regarded as one of Australia’s greatest composers, and for the first time, his last major work will be performed in Australia.
His last major composition, Island Songs — the first and only work composed by him for two pianos in his 350-plus compositions — was dedicated to the Brown and Breen Piano Duo just before his death in 2014.
[showads ad=MREC]The Brown and Breen Piano Duo, with special guest Russell Smith on didgeridoo, will now perform Island Songs live for the first time in Australia as the centrepiece of a rare all-Australian program, which also works by Nigel Westlake, Ross Edwards, Percy Grainger, Elena Kat-Chernin and Miriam Hyde.
The Brown and Breen Piano Duo formed in 2011 and comprises of concert pianist Bonnie Brown, and Louisa Breen, concert and orchestral pianist. Both are both highly acclaimed pianists locally and internationally.
This is the first time Island Songs will be performed in Australia in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide — following the world premiere in Paris last year.
