WHATS ON: Melbourne’s famous Trough X on its way to Sydney
AN institution in Melbourne’s gay nightlife over the past few years, the city’s famous Trough X party is now coming to Sydney for the first time ever this weekend.
Formerly known as “Trough Faggot Party”, Trough was founded in 2005 to give Melbourne a gay disco that went against the grain and glitter.
Inspired by Berlin’s underground club scene, Trough soon become hugely popular. After 21 parties, it changed its name to Trough X, and made Collingwood’s sex-on-premises venue Club80 as its home.
Trough X quickly became popular for its striking and not-safe-for-work advertising campaigns, including promotional videos that went viral on social media. While the party has evolved to one that is sex-driven, organisers have maintained what the party was famous for in the first place: the quality of music.
Noticing the large number of Sydneysiders who attend Trough X in Melbourne, organisers thought it was time to expand the party and bring it north of the border.
For the debut Sydney instalment, Trough will be held at the recently-renovated The Shift nightclub. And while organisers have promised the same style of music as well as “epic decorations” and “video art-screens” to be installed for the night, partygoers should not expect the unique venue experience of Melbourne’s original Trough X parties.
DJs on the night include Sydney’s Jonny Seymour, Paul mac and Matt Vaughan along side Melbourne DJs That Fahri Guy and Chiara Kickdrum.
Trough Sydney is on Saturday, May 16 from 10pm. For tickets and details visit troughsydney.iwannaticket.com.au
Trough X will return to Melbourne on Saturday, July 27.
