A WORKSHOP that will focus on the history of young LGBTI people in Australia will be held on Saturday at Melbourne City Library as part of Midsumma.
The interactive workshop, presented by Daniel Marshall, aims to clear questions such as whether there are histories of young queer people in Australia, what happened before there were any queer youth groups and when homosexuality was still illegal, what did queer young people do in the past, what protests did they organise, parties, their fashion, and music tastes.
The workshop will also look at how things have changed for young LGBTI people today.
This event is based on the Queer Youth Education Project workshops that Marshall runs. Marshall also writes about LGBTI history and youth and is an academic at Deakin University in Melbourne.
This workshop is also running as part of the Melbourne City Library’s presentation of the Australian Lesbian and Gay Archives exhibition Out of the Closets, Into the Streets.
This exhibition looks at the history of the Melbourne gay liberation movement through photographs, archival material, film footage, objects and personal momentos.
The Queer Youth History Workshop is at 2pm on Saturday, January 31 at Melbourne City Library. For details and to make your free booking, click here.
