Mark your calendar
It’s the business end of the year, with lots of big events coming up, so now is the time to think about booking them into your calendar.
International Lesbian Day (ILD) on October 8 is coming up and that means it’s time to save the date for LISA’s (Lesbians In the Shoalhaven Area) dance party. The dance will be on ILD, Saturday, 8 October from 7.30pm at Tomerong Hall (Hawken Rd, Tomerong). Local girls Cider Jam will be a feature of the night. Entry is $5 plus a gold coin donation to cover nibbles. BYO drinks and dancing shoes.
The dress code for this dance will be ‘L’ (e.g. lemon, ladies, lavender, lace).
Viva La Gong, Wollongong’s annual community and cultural festival is also coming up quickly. This year there will be a parade through Wollongong that culminates at the family fair day. If individuals or groups are interested in participating in the parade and representing their local LGBT community, please contact Trevor on 02 4226 1163. Even if you can’t be in the parade, try to come along and say hi at the ACON tent on the day.
If you’re in Berry between September 30 and October 9, consider checking out a local art exhibition. Connected Women will feature artworks from four local award-winning artists with “diverse artistic styles connected by a love of painting”. Exhibition opening times are from 10am-4pm at 10 Prince Alfred St, Berry. For more information, contact Bel on 0438 252 746
Illawarra Rising, the GLBT arts and cultural group operating out of the Phoenix Theatre, is already having planning meetings in the lead-up to Mardi Gras 2012. If you would like to be involved in planning and organising the float, please contact [email protected]
There will be a call-out for participants soon. Stay tuned for updates if you would like to be involved.
