Lend a hand
This year brings lots to look forward to, including Mardi Gras, which unbelievably is almost upon us again. We’re only about six weeks out from the parade, so for those who haven’t started working on costumes yet, you’d better get cracking!
Volunteering can also be a great way to be involved throughout the entire festival, and now is a good time to see who might need a helping hand to bring it all together for a fantastic Mardi Gras over the next few weeks.
If you want to be involved in the Illawarra Mardi Gras Float, this Sunday is your chance to sign up! The sign-up meeting held earlier this month had a great turn-out, however, if you are interested in taking part the next meeting is on Sunday, January 23 at 2pm at The Phoenix Theatre (24 Bridge St, Coniston). With limited spaces left, it’s a great opportunity to come along and find out how you can make your Mardi Gras fantabulous this year!

The ACON Illawarra walking group has been keeping up the routine over the break and is always glad to see new members. As usual, there will be lots of encouragement and good conversation (good weather is beyond our control!). The group leaves from North Beach Kiosk at 6.25am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with post-walk coffee most Wednesdays and Fridays. We’re not out to break speed records — it’s about getting up and getting active. Call Trevor during business hours on 02 4226 1163.
Come Out Illawarra’s first meeting of 2011 is at Hideaway Café (8/81 Church St, Wollongong), on January 23 from 11am. This meeting will discuss options for the group in 2011 and provide a great chance for a catch-up and a coffee with friends.
Take care, have fun, and play safe!
