New era for Queens Ball
Brisbane Pride Festival held its annual Queens Ball at the Tivoli in Fortitude Valley on Sunday night, celebrating the fabulous 50s and honouring community achievers in its awards presentation.
Fluffy promoter and creative director Harry Katsanevas was one of the big winners of the night, taking out both the DJ of the Year award and Event of the Year award for Fluffy’s GLAM event, held at Family nightclub.
Community stalwart Aunty Pat took home the Volunteer of the Year award, while Big Gay Day won the Annual Event of the Year and Brisbane’s Sportsman Hotel snagged the Best Licensed Venue gong.
Presenters during the evening included PFLAG spokeswoman Shelley Argent and former state Labor MP Grace Grace.
Many speakers used the platform to back the Queensland Association for Healthy Communities, which is to be defunded by the Newman Government.
