Swing it sister
A group for older lesbians is holding a mid-year fundraiser next month with the harmonic Soul Sisters Swing set to get the dance floor swirling.
These modern-day Andrews Sisters will perform hits from the ‘40s through to the ‘60s in a night to raise money for the Matrix Guild.
Matrix Guild events co-ordinator Sharon Stanton told Southern Star she hopes the night will be a success.
“Hopefully we’ll make some money for out home-based services which assist people in their homes who may need special equipment or help around the home,” she said.
“The money will go to a good cause.”
Now running for 18 years, the Matrix Guild is a community group for older lesbians and raises money to help older lesbians who are marginalised, disabled or frail.
The event will be held at the newly refitted Fitzroy Town Hall with giveaways on the night and DJ Anny on the decks.
The Guild has recently commissioned research into GLBT ageing and thanks to a recent bequest has acquired three apartments in Brunswick to assist lesbian seniors in need of accommodation.
The project is expected to be completed in 2011.
