JOY 94.9 dishes out
Local GLBTI radio station, JOY 94.9FM will be rattling the tin this week for its annual radiothon.
Over $30,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs for new and renewing members starting tomorrow and continuing over the next 10 days.
Operating solely on sponsorship, membership and donations, JOY 94.9 receives no ongoing government fund-ing for its 24-hour broadcasting station.
Station management says it is crucial to enlist the support of members to shore up the station’s future as the economy hits rocky times.
-œWith the economic downturn, our members are crucial support. We rely more on sponsorship at the moment so it’s something we’d like to rebalance, station manager Stephen Hahn said.
JOY 94.9 is the only dedicated GLBTI community radio station in Australia, offering a daily serve of music, talk shows, news and current affairs with a queer focus.
The campaign starts Friday June 12 and runs on air to Sunday June 21.
Prizes include a Virgin Blue holiday to LA; assorted goodies from Apple computers including a Mac Book, iPod touch, Vers iPod speaker system and laptop bag; a Tivoli music system from Audio Dynamics; a Ross Watson limited edition print; and the entire FQ films DVD catalogue from Beyond Home Entertainment.
There will also be a range of daily and specialist prize giveaways for those who tune in.
