Michelle gives Honour Awards a healthy edge
Guests at NSW’s annual GLBT community awards — the Honour Awards — will join a host of TV, entertainment and community personalities for a glamorous night of celebration, commemoration and silent auction bargain hunting.
Stars from Foxtel, Network Ten and Australia’s musical theatre scene will join 22 finalists and some of NSW’s leading community identities at the Ivy’s Sun Room in Sydney on Thursday, September 30 to recognise outstanding achievements in our community.
The awards are a gala fundraising event for ACON, and community members are encouraged to buy tickets to the event to support ACON’s vital work.
ACON events coordinator David Wilkins said the awards ceremony and cocktail party would be fabulously festive.
“The chic environs of the Ivy’s Sun Room will make a wonderful backdrop as guests are treated throughout the evening to quality wines and beers, delicious gourmet canapés and great DJs,” Wilkins said.
“There’ll also be a silent auction featuring a gorgeous range of beauty, fitness, dining and travel experiences plus an enticing array of art, furniture, mobile devices and professional services.
“In addition, Foxtel is a presenting partner of the Honour Awards and Network Ten is a finalist so we can expect a clutch of screen celebs to spice up the proceedings as well.
“It will be a truly memorable occasion not only for our inspirational finalists but for all our guests whose attendance we’ll be honouring with a really sensational celebration of our community.”
Biggest Loser trainer and celebrity fitness guru Michelle Bridges will be among the guests at the awards. She has teamed up with City Gym to offer a $5000 fitness package as one of the silent auction items, comprising a personal fitness consultation with the trainer herself, a collection of Michelle’s fitness DVDs and cookbooks, and a 12-month City Gym membership.
“I’m a huge supporter of the GLBT community and I’m really looking forward to helping the community celebrate some truly inspiring achievements and contributions,” Bridges said.
ACON CEO Nicolas Parkhill said money raised from tickets sales and the silent auction will help fund ACON’s vital work in the community.
“While ACON gets a significant amount of funding from NSW Health, that money can only be spent on work we do in relation to HIV/AIDS,” he said.
“Our broader work in relation to GLBT health and wellbeing — such as alcohol and other drugs, lesbian health, anti-violence, mental health, ageing, community care and advocacy — is financed by one-off grants, fundraising activities and donations.
“To keep this important work going, we rely on the generosity of people and organisations in our community.
“By coming along to the Honour Awards, community members, their friends and associates can celebrate the dynamic spirit of our community and, at the same time, raise money to help ACON build our community’s health and wellbeing.”
