MCC ready to get festive
Renovations at Sydney Town Hall have forced MCC Sydney to move its 14-year-old Christmas Eve service to Petersham.
All are welcome regardless of gender, sexual orientation, nationality or previous church background.
Due to the shift, the service has been changed and will not feature the Gay and Lesbian Choir. Entertainment will be provided by Justin J Bear and the MCC Crave music team.
Organisers said those wishing for a good seat were advised to arrive early. The service has been known to fill the large Sydney Town Hall venue, and a fewer number of seats will be available in Petersham.
In previous years the service has attracted many eminent speakers including Justice Michael Kirby, Dorothy McRae-McMahon and Julie McCrossin.
The Christmas Eve Service is MCC Sydney’s chance to thank its community for support during the year and to celebrate with it the Christmas spirit of peace and goodwill to all people, Church spokesman Noel Smith said.
Come alone, with friends, with your gay family, with your traditional family, your social club or your colleagues. This is one of those events in the year where we can join with so many of our friends in a proud celebration of what the spirit of Christmas is, and be able to enjoy this with our community en masse.
MCC Sydney does not currently have a pastor, following the departure of Rev Karl Hand to start a new church on Oxford St. However, the church has a team of lay members who have taken on pastoral duties until a new pastor is selected from a shortlist of applicants.
