Jade jives into a recording contract
After leaving Australia four years ago to pursue a singing career, Samantha Jade has done what Australian idols only dream of – she’s signed with legendary JIVE records, had the lead single from the soundtrack for the Hollywood hit Step Up and is releasing an album in the US.
Two years in the making, her new self-titled album will be released in Australia at the end of the year.
The production credits read like a who’s who of American music, with big names like Timbaland and Soulshock and Karlin adding their considerable experience to the debut.
“It’s been so fun and really crazy,” Jade said. “The album is going to be a combination of R&B and love song ballads.
“It’s urban pop. I really hope the gay community likes it.”
The new single Turn Around, to be released in September, was produced by Soulshock and Karlin – the masterminds behind the Jojo song Leave.
The video was shot in Malibu and features a sexy male model handpicked by Jade.
“The song is about being in love with a guy who doesn’t feel the same way and just vanishes,” Jade said.
“He may be there physically, but is not there emotionally and not taking care of me.”
The singer said her path into the music industry hasn’t been an easy one, but one on which she has learned a lot of lessons.
“I’m only 5’1”, so I’m too short to be a model, but singing has always been my passion,” Jade said.
“It’s been hard on my personal life because it’s all work. I miss my home and family.”
But success seems assured. The American market has already embraced her pop-influenced R&B style and the single is on high rotation on many of the country’s key radio stations.
And then, all going to plan, Jade will return to Australia for a tour to show the home population what all the fuss is about.
