Ford’s gay ad backdown
Under pressure from activists, US car manufacturer Ford has announced it will advertise all eight of its brands in the gay press, after earlier saying it would pull Jaguar and Land Rover ads.The car company faced accusations it had given in to conservatives after it announced the cancellation of the Jaguar and Land Rover ads in gay publications earlier this month.Conservative Christian group the American Family Association (AFA) had threatened a Ford boycott because of the company’s advertising stance. But following a meeting with lobbyists this week, Ford said it would run ads in the gay press featuring all of its models, Associated Press reported. It is my hope that this will remove any ambiguity about Ford’s desire to advertise to all important audiences and put this particular issue to rest, Ford executive Joe Laymon said in a statement.Gay groups applauded the decision. The AFA said it was considering its next move, which might include a Ford boycott, 365Gay.com reported.
