Too true, Honey Boo Boo
What a way to finish off a first season: a 17-year-old giving birth to a baby with three thumbs, the introduction of “Uncle Poodle”, and the acceptance of being gay. Oh, Honey Boo Boo, you really have out-done yourself.
Here comes Honey Boo Boo, a TLC reality show set in rural Georgia, focuses on pageant princess and Toddlers & Tiaras star Honey Boo Boo and her family as they go about their lives outside the lights and the runways of the pageant world.
The star of the show is six-year-old beauty queen Alana Thompson, better known as Honey Boo Boo.
This week saw the finale of the reality show and with it came a few new arrivals. Honey Boo Boo’s 17-year-old sister Anna, gave birth to her daughter Kaitlyn, who has a second thumb on her right hand. Although odd, the extra extremity was met with a ‘high six’ and a joke involving grabbing cheeseballs. Alongside that arrival came the introduction to Honey Boo Boo’s uncle Lee, more affectionately known as “Uncle Poodle”.
Uncle Poodle is gay and it would appear that the pageant princess and her family are all accepting of their uncle’s sexuality – having spent the episode discussing it at length. But why is he called Uncle Poodle?
“Alana calls any gay person a ‘poodle’,” said older sister Jess. Well, that explains it.
“Ain’t nothin’ wrong with bein’ a little gay. Everybody’s a little gay”, states Honey Boo Boo.
Of course, acceptance didn’t come without the odd stereotype: “You know gay men…they know how to dance and make the moves”, said Honey Boo Boo’s mother, June.
Although same-sex marriage is still a hot topic, it looks as though the Thompson family has sent their acceptance of the ‘poodle’, all the way from the mud-pits and cook-outs of their rural Georgian home.
