CDC Issues Alert About Meningococcal Disease Outbreak Among Gay, Bisexual Men In Florida

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States on Friday issued a health alert about a "large and ongoing outbreak" of meningococcal disease in Florida "primarily among gay, bisexual, and men who have sex with men, including those living with HIV." The CDC, in response to the outbreak, said it was encouraging gay, bisexual and men who have sex with men, with or without HIV, to get vaccinated if they live in Florida or were travelling to Florida. Meningococcal Disease Outbreak In Victoria in 2017 In 2017, there was an outbreak of meningococcal disease among men who have sex with men in Victoria, Australia. The government funded a free meningococcal vaccination programme for all men who have sex with men in Victoria between December 2017 and December 2018. A study found that around two-thirds of MSM who attended a sexual health clinic during that period received at least one dose of the vaccine.
