AIDS Awareness Week
by DERMOT RYAN
AIDS Awareness Week and World AIDS Day are fast approaching and we have some great events happening across the Hunter and Mid-North Coast.
This is Oz will be launched at Port Macquarie Library on November 24 at 6pm to mark the beginning of AIDS Awareness Week. Come and view the exhibition between November 24 and December 1. Please contact Kim on 6584 0943 to have your photo included or to find out more.
Karumah Positive Living Centre will hold their 20th anniversary dinner at Customs House Newcastle on Friday November 27. Tickets are $60. If you have ever been involved with the centre and would like to celebrate this occasion please email [email protected]
A tree-planting service will be held at Carrington Memorial Garden on Sunday November 29 at 10am with refreshments provided. The garden is just over the Carrington Bridge and everyone is welcome to attend. For directions or information please call Maryanne on 4927 6808.
Rainbow Visions are screening Milk at Lake Cinema Boolaroo on December 1 with tickets available at the door. Many of the issues Harvey addressed still resonate today and the film allows us to reflect on the courage and determination of the many local activists who have fought and continue to fight for the rights of gay men, lesbians, bisexual and transgender people here in Australia.
If you’d like a calendar of events for the Hunter region please contact ACON’s Hunter Office on [email protected], check our website at www.acon.org.au or call 4927 6808 to have one posted out to you.
On another note, ACON now offers support for people affected by substance use in the Hunter region. Jeff has appointments available if you think substance use is an issue for you or a family member, partner or friend. He can be contacted on 4927 6808.
