Get hot and steamy in Darwin
The first rains of the season have brought a renewed energy in the Top End, paving the way for a fantastic 2011 Darwin Pride Festival, starting November 18.
Darwin Pride runs over nine days and boasts 15 uniquely Top End events.
“Darwin, and the Top End, is a truly unique place, and we have designed our program of events to reflect this,” Darwin Pride chair James Emery said.
“Not only are we putting on a unique program of events, we have also planned events that complement our tropical weather. It’s going to get hot and steamy and we’re not going to let a bit of tropical rain stand between us and a good time.”
Asked about why the committee decided to host the event in the Territory’s traditional off-season, Emery said the committee saw an opportunity to do something a bit different.
“Every year Darwin goes off in the dry and as the visitors leave, so do the events,” he said.
“We want to show that Darwin is great all year round, including duringh the wet. We, the committee, have put so much time and energy into the festival and we can’t wait for the community to come together in a truly unique Top End celebration.”
