Examining the difference
The eighth national LGBTI health conference will be held in Melbourne in April.
Health in Difference will bring together community organisations, health practitioners, researchers, academics, policy makers, advocates, community members and others who are interested in improving the mental, physical and emotional health and wellbeing of LGBTI people.
The overarching theme for this year’s conference is ‘Our bodies, our minds’.
The conference will focus on practical health issues, including ageing and aged care, mental health and suicide prevention, doing LGBTI health differently, and health and wellbeing for people of diverse sex and gender.
It is also expected to present the largest and most comprehensive selection of LGBTI health research, initiatives and presentations to date.
Beginning in 1996, Health in Difference was last held in 2010 – the first year the National LGBT Health Alliance took carriage of the event. The last conference attracted 212 participants from across Australia and New Zealand, which was the highest number of participants recorded at any of the Health in Difference conferences so far.
Individuals or organisations wishing to speak or present at this year’s event have until March 4 to register.
Earlybird registrations are also open until March 4. Registration rates include conference day catering, attendance at conference, as well as all conference related material.
As per its previous conferences, Health in Difference 2013 will also offer a range of scholarships designed to enable access and participation for the greatest possible diversity of conference delegates.
Applicants from priority funding areas, including intersex, trans, sista girl, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people, youth, people and/or carers with lived experience of mental illness, rural or remote communities, and homelessness are encouraged to apply.
Health in Difference will be held from April 18-20 at the Novotel St. Kilda, Melbourne.
