UK TV to reclaim sex from pornography
UK tv station Channel 4 is about to launch a new TV series unlike any other seen on prime-time television in the UK, and possibly the world. The concept behind the show called ‘Sex Box’ has three British couples, including a gay couple, who will have sex in an opaque, soundproof box that is located in a television studio surrounded by a cameras and a live audience all in the effort to “reclaim sex from pornography”.
The show hopes to provoke “mature” and “intelligent discussion” about sex in the British community. The show will not actually show sex onscreen, but it will include interviews with the couples by the show’s host, Mariella Frostrup, as well as a panel of experts.
Producers of the show said that it had not been hard to find couples willing to appear on the show, and that they had taken steps to ensure that “real” couples were participating and not simply exhibitionists.
“Those who appear have a personal reason for doing so – perhaps some felt that their sex lives were not represented in the media, so it was a chance to show the sort of sex they have,” he said.
Sex Box is scheduled to air in the UK on October 7.
