How gay is American TV?
HOW well represented is the LGBTI community on TV screens through characters who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans*?
The answer according to this year’s Where We Are On TV report by GLAAD has the total percentage at 3.9 per cent.
The report found that out of the 813 regular characters that appeared on scripted US primetime television series, 32 where from the LGBTI community. Up from last year’s 3.3 per cent.
Fox network had the highest representation with six pert cent of its characters identifying as LGBTI.
This year’s increase in representation, while up from last year, still shadows in the wake of the record high of 4.4 per cent set in 2012.
GLAAD president Sarah Kate Ellis praised primetime TV’s online competitors such as Netflix for shows like Orange is the New Black for the inclusion of diverse characters, and their significant trans* content.

Inadequate . Ditto for most non mainstream groups .
Everyone is getting in and having the token gay and lesbian in a show here and there. TV producers are shit scared to have more then on gay and lesbian person on a show at anyone time. They might just get a big to much for main stream TV
Shows on ABC and SBS do a fine job at being inclusive (and not just of LGBTI).
I think if they pick up the pilot I’m signed to it will have more of a voice…
