Transphobia turned into art by UK artist Conor Collins
ARTIST Conor Collins has created collage of transphobic comments and death threats that Caitlyn Jenner received on social media into art work of her famous Vanity Fair front cover.
Speaking with the Star Observer, the UK artist explained what he wanted to achieve in creating the artwork.
“I think it was mostly hoping to highlight to people who may not be aware the real and dark transphobia in society,” he said.
“It seems almost every day you hear of the brutal murder of another trans* person, particularly trans* people of colour.
“I wanted to show that although the support for Caitlyn is so wonderful, there is still danger out there for so many who do not have the privilege to be able to be safe.
Collins’ artwork has gone viral on social media and has appeared on popular websites such as the Huffington Post and BuzzFeed.
In 2014, the artist portrayed Olympic diver Tom Daley in a similar style based on the anti-gay tweets directed at the athlete.
