Harbour City Bears welcome new president after successful year
THE recent annual general meeting for Sydney’s Habour City Bears saw Marcus Pastorelli step down as president of the club, making way for Evan Cannan.
Pastorelli said the previous year was a successful one, thanks to some successful parties, and weekly events at Kinselas Hotel on Taylor Square and The Bank Hotel on King St, Newtown, that have been a hit.
“Habour City Bears [HCB] is committed to supporting the bears and the wider LGBTI community, and we can only do this the generous help of our commercial and community partners, and tireless efforts of the dozens volunteers who make our events happen. Everything goes back into the community,” Pastorelli said.
HCB’s member and volunteers supported the community by running forums on legal rights, and on mental health and well-being.
Fundraising had netted more than $7000 donated to support the Inspire Foundation’s work on youth suicide prevention, and to Bobby Goldsmith Foundation to support people with HIV. The recent fundraising sausage sizzle at Bunning’s Alexandria had also been a highlight, raising the profile of HCB.
Incoming president Evan Cannan said that the coming year would be just as exciting for HCB and the bear community.
“We are working hard on preparations for the upcoming Aussie Pool Party on August 29, in association with the Bingham Cup, an Octobearfest dinner, and some big parties for the rest of 2014,” he said.
