Fruit salad for all
For the first time in a long time (in fact, this could be the first time ever!), the SGLBA’s premier social and networking nights, Lemons with a Twist, and Fruits in Suits are combining to host a joint event called Fruit Salad.
Lemons with a Twist director Mary Shalala said, It’s time the guys and girls had the opportunity to mix every so often. We’ve received a lot of requests from attendees at both Lemons and Fruits for such an event and we thought we should put an event on that meets those requests.
Fruits in Suits director Mark Haines said, I think this is a really positive thing, especially for the guys because they don’t have to leave Fruits early to get up the next day. [Fruits is held on Thursdays.] By having it on a Friday occasionally, and with Lemons, they can bring along a girlfriend and stay out all night if they want to -” and not in a suit!
Fruit Salad will follow the same format as the usual Fruits and Lemons events, with great entertainment by DJ Kelly Lynch, Minnie Cooper and the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir.
As always, there will be a community donation and some fantastic prizes to win. Money raised will, as usual, contribute to the SGLBA’s Community Good Works Fund, enabling the SGLBA to assist other community-based organisations.
One of the most important things our association can do is promote and increase awareness of community-based organisations. As such, we’ve been a strong supporter of the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation for many years. We recognise the foundation’s important work in providing essential support to a very marginalised group of people directly disadvantaged by HIV.
We’re proud of the fact that the money we have raised for BGF through our Good Works Fund is able to provide practical help with real results for people in our community. Whether it’s providing direct financial assistance to pay bills and essential HIV medications, financial counselling so people can manage their money better or support for people to return to work or study, we know that our donations to BGF’s programs are reaching those who need it most.
The SGLBA applauds the ongoing work of BGF and looks forward to supporting them into the future.
Ladies, please note that due to a private booking, Lemons will not be held at Slide in December, but will be held as Fruit Salad. See event information below. Gents, Fruits will still be held at Slide on 18 December.
