Kate Bush confirms new album

Kate Bush confirms new album

When the Star Observer interviewed EMI Records CEO Mark Poston for a profile piece back in July, we could scarcely believe our ears when the head honcho casually mentioned he’d been told to prepare for a new Kate Bush album this November.

Bush is notorious for her patience-testing gaps between albums – fans had a 12-year wait before her 2005 masterpiece Aerial – so the news that we’d only have to wait a few months after the release of this year’s Director’s Cut seemed unlikely, even coming from someone so high up at her record company.

Nevertheless, we duly reported the tidbit in the resulting piece, and within a matter of hours, it had spread worldwide. Not only were Kate Bush fan sites and forums discussing the news, respected music publications like NME ran with it too (www.nme.com/news/kate-bush/58142).

As was revealed last night in a post on Bush’s website, it turns out Poston was right. November 21 will see the worlwide release of 50 Words For Snow, a brand new, seven-song, 65-minute album from Bush. Her website reports that the tracks are ‘set against a backdrop of falling snow’.

To us, the project has echoes of Bush’s previous career high, the incredible second disc to Aerial (A Sky of Honey), an expansive nine-song journey using the natural music of birdsong.

With a little over two months until release date, it shouldn’t be too long until we hear some new material – album track Wildman is rumoured to be the first single from the album.
