Not just a girl with a guitar
Girl Most Likely are a Sydney-based indie pop-rock group and I’ve been told that after each gig the two female members leave lesbians gob-smacked.
Lead singer Sarah Aubrey is no stranger to the GLBT community or to the entertainment industry. Her songs have been used on TV promos for The L Word, All Saints and Home and Away.
For two years they played under the name Sarah Aubrey but one day she decided it wasn’t all about her -” they were a band, not just a girl with a guitar. The band released their self-titled EP in February.
We’ve started to feel like more of a proper band now, and anyway, I never really got up and sang by myself. It was always us playing strong as a quartet. We’ve also started creating a quintessential band sound -” we’re writing songs in the studio and developing together as musos, Aubrey said.
We’ve got an acoustic heart, some rocking legs, wave-your-hands-in-the-air arms and a Dr Freud meets Dr Spock psyche.
We’ve certainly moved forward from the stereotypical girl with a guitar singing her heart out towards a fuller, more polished sound.
The band have also filmed a video clip for their single England, which Aubrey describes as a nostalgic ballad dressed up as a rock song. Keep an eye out on the band’s website for tour dates as they have a Sydney gig scheduled for July.
