Hundreds sign on to support same-sex marriage
More than 600 people registered their support for same-sex marriage during a submissions drive led by Community Action Against Homophobia over the weekend.
The race for same-sex marriage submissions held by CAAH in Newtown on Saturday has been labeled a huge success by organisers.
“We were overwhelmed by support and often had groups of people crowding our stall to fill out a submission form,” CAAH co-convenor Emilia Lawonski said.
“It was interesting speaking with passers-by that openly opposed same-sex marriage,” she added. “It was great to have an open conversation about how they felt about the issue, and very liberating to have many of those people actually leave our conversation having more changed their tune and filling out a submission to the government in support of same-sex marriage.”
Submissions to the marriage inquiry close on August 28.
